Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre — Sustainable Lifeguard Uniforms

Following the rollout, SOPA confirmed that staff, management, and customers all love the new uniforms — from their comfort and fit to the lifeguard colours.

The Challenge

Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPA) wanted to redesign its lifeguard uniforms to better reflect the vibrant identity of the Centre while meeting strict sustainability and ethical production standards. Through a formal government procurement process, SOPA sought a partner who could deliver a custom-made range that showcased their selected lifeguard colours in polos, shorts, tracksuit pants, and jackets.

The uniforms needed to be:

  • Durable and practical for active pool attendants.
  • Ethically produced using sustainable materials.
  • Colour-accurate to SOPA’s chosen lifeguard palette.
  • Environmentally responsible from production through to packaging.

Our Approach

Collaborative Design & Sampling

We worked closely with SOPA’s team, providing a series of pre-production samples across the full uniform range. Multiple PMS colour trials were undertaken until the lifeguard colours were perfected, ensuring the uniforms carried SOPA’s identity with pride.

Technical Colour Calibration

One of the biggest challenges came from matching colour tones across different fabrics. Polyester polos and soft-touch microfiber jackets/pants absorb colour differently. Our technicians applied advanced colour calibration so that every garment, from polos to jackets — looked like part of one cohesive set.

Sustainability & Ethical Production

  • Recycled Polyester: The polos were made using certified recycled fibres.
  • Eco-Friendly Sublimation: Chosen for its low environmental impact, sublimation ensures vibrant, lasting colour with minimal waste.
  • Recycled Packaging: Each garment was supplied in certified recycled poly bags.
  • Future Lifecycle Planning: We also discussed a recycling program with SOPA, enabling worn-out or unused uniforms to be repurposed in Australia.

The Result

Creative Identity delivered 1,500 custom lifeguard uniforms: polos, shorts, tracksuit pants, and jackets.

  • Staff and management praised the quality, fit, and colours, which reflected their chosen lifeguard palette perfectly.
  • Customers noticed the professional new look, adding to the sense of safety and trust at the Aquatic Centre.
  • SOPA achieved its sustainability objectives while giving lifeguards a uniform they’re proud to wear.
